How to Format a Business Memo
It is important that a business memo follows structure or format and the following points make up the format of a business memo:
- The memo line – The word memo must be clearly written at the center and top of the page.
- Header block – The header starts with “To:” on the first line. Type in the full names of the recipient and their job titles. Put in “From:” with your name and title on the second line. Place the “Date:” the memo was made. Next is the “Subject:” which is the topic and a little description
- Opening – Describes the reasons behind the making of the memo. It should just be brief and concise
- Main block – The opening is then expounded further here along with supporting information. Mark “Attached” for any attached supporting document with a brief description of it.
A memo is often limited to a page but can be a maximum of two. It has to be short and concise that readers can read on the fly.
