What Is a Ryder Cup?

A Ryder Cup is a competition between the teams from countries or places in Europe and some states in the United States. This competition is mainly for men’s golf competition that happens every two years. A fun fact about The Ryder Cup is that the golf players are not paid to play. Rather, they enter on their own will. In addition to that, golf players who proceed to play in the Ryder Cup are given a Ryder Cup sheet that lists down their scores throughout the entire tournament. The sheet is what is going to be used as the basis for their scoring, and to see who wins.

How to Make a Ryder Cup Sheet

In the game of golf, a Ryder cup sheet is only used when there is a Ryder Cup tournament. Each of the Ryder cup sheets has its own basis for scoring. Each scoring has its own set of rules. It may look complicated from time to time but you will understand it better through this:

1. A Set of Two Teams for Four Balls

For the game of four balls, there is a set of two members per team. They must play their own ball and must also play for each hole. The rule for this game is that each of the teams must count the lowest of their two scores for each of the holes. The team who has the lowest score will win the game. However, when both teams are tied, it does not necessarily mean that it is left as such, rather the holes they have played will be divided in half.

2. A Two Man Team

Another thing is the two man team or as they say in Golf, the foursomes. For the two man team, each team plays a single ball for every hole, all the while taking turns until every single hole is played. Each player from each team takes turns hitting the ball in odd numbered holes while the other goes for even holes. It is the same with the first one, that the lowest score wins.

3. A Single’s Match

The single’s match is played the same way as the ones above. Each player playing against each other must find a way to have the lowest score for each hole. In order for them to win. If the scores are tied, the holes they have scored in are divided in half. The goal here is to score at least 14 and a half.

4. The Total Points of the Game

The points of the game is measured by the total number of days the matches have been played. This means a total of 28 matches, and each player earning a single point. The only thing that can make the scoring complicated is when two teams have the same scoring and this ends with each player getting a half point.
