Elements of a Good Christmas Menu

Listed below are the elements of a good Christmas menu. Make sure to include all the elements when you will be creating your own Christmas menu.

1. Typography: Typography relates to the text you will be adding in the menu. Typography also pertains to the message you will be portraying in the menu, basically the list of dishes and additional description you will be writing after each dish. The font size and font style you will be using also applies here.

2. Graphics or images: A menu heavily relies on graphics or images for it to be visually attractive. Without graphics or images, the menu would look very bland and the people viewing it would not be enticed to order. Graphics or images add another layer to the menu, so give it priority when making a Christmas menu.

3. Colors: Although graphics or images play a large role in your Christmas menu, colors complete the aesthetics of the menu. In creating a Christmas menu, use colors which are associated with the yuletide season such as red, yellow, green, white, and purple. You may also see menu designs.

4. Christmas-related designs: You may already be using graphics or images in the Christmas menu, but adding event-related designs adds another visual layer to the said menu. Event-related designs pertain to the designs that match the purpose of the menu you are making. In this case for a Christmas menu, you should add designs that relate to the holidays such as Christmas trees, reindeer, Santa Claus, snow flakes, and candy canes, just to name a few.

5. High quality paper: For your Christmas menu, you should use good or high-quality paper. High-quality paper does not have to be expensive, as there are affordable types of paper that exude adequate, if not great, quality. Additionally, the menu will be much more appreciated if it is written in a high-quality paper. You may also see dinner menu examples.

Steps to Designing a Good Christmas Menu

Follow these very easy steps when you creating your Christmas menu:

1. Create a concept: Before everything, you first need to create a concept or theme. The concept can pertain to the overall design of the Christmas menu—graphics or images, colors, text, paper. You can create the concept in a graphic design software or simply in a piece of paper.

2. Gather the necessary food and beverage information: While creating the concept, you can also gather the necessary information pertaining to the food or beverage you will be adding in the menu. You can also create short descriptions (a phrase or sentence) of each dish you will be including in the menu. Take a look at some food menu designs.

3. Create the menu: Once you have everything in place, it is now time to create the Christmas menu. Incorporate all the elements and use the concept or layout you created beforehand as a guide when you will be creating the menu.

4. Edit and revise (if necessary): Before you print out the Christmas menu, you should check and double-check everything, from the text, colors, and to the images or pictures. You don’t want your guests to notice glaring errors in the menu before they order their food. Although most likely they won’t mind, it will be quite embarrassing on your end. Types of Christmas Menu

Here are some menu types you can use when you will be creating your own Christmas menu:

1. A la carte menu: An a la carte menu is one of the most common types of menu used in restaurants and other food shops. A la carte pertains to one item or single serving in the menu. You won’t find platters or group meals in an a la carte menu since dishes are served individually. This menu is preferred for a Christmas event with few people attending as they will most likely have their own preferred dishes.

2. Beverage menu: Many restaurants and bars tend to keep a separate menu for their wine and drinks. A beverage menu is mainly focused on drinks: tea, coffee, cocktail, wine, shake, and carbonated drinks, just to name a few. This menu is ideal if you are hosting a Christmas event with a few friends. You just need to buy snacks from a restaurant or a nearby store to pair with the drinks.

3. Static menu: A static menu is very common among fast-food chains since the dishes in their menu rarely change. A static type of menu can be found in your favorite fast-food chains such as McDonald’s, Burger King, Dairy Queen, Subway, and KFC, just to name a few. Compared to an a la carte menu, a static menu can include platter or group meals. This menu is ideal if you are hosting a big Christmas event which will be attended by a large number of guests.

4. Du jour menu: A du juor menu focuses on special dishes, or popular known as the “menu for the day.” Some restaurants print out new sets of menu if they are serving special dishes on limited dates, but most restaurants use a chalkboard menu where they don’t have to invest in printing a new menu and simply write down the dishes in the chalkboard instead. A du jour menu is not really applicable for a Christmas get-together since the food you are serving to your guests is only limited, unless you are hosting a Christmas lunch or dinner on multiple dates.

5. Dessert menu: A dessert menu, similar to a beverage menu focuses only on one thing: sweet and decadent desserts. From candy canes, Yule logs, white chocolates, fruit cakes, raspberry cakes, cupcakes, and cannoli, there are numerous Christmas-only desserts you can whip up during the holiday season. A dessert menu can be given out to your guests after you have given the a la carte menu or static menus, or basically after they have eaten their appetizers and entrees.
