Description of the Incident

The fire started in the kitchen of the Howard County Community Center during a large community gathering. It began above a commercial stove, where a ventilation hood caught fire due to accumulated grease and an overheated motor.

Action Taken

Upon detection of the fire, the kitchen staff used fire extinguishers and activated the fire suppression system, which doused the flames above the stove. The community center was evacuated promptly, following the emergency response plan. The local fire department was called and arrived at the scene within five minutes to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and to ventilate the building.
